It’s that time of year again to get your kids ready to head back to school.
On top of organising school books, shoes and new uniforms, we can’t forgot about getting their hair looking fresh for the new school year! So the girls at Khayaam have put together a few tips and tricks to help you getting your kids hair looking neat and stylish in and out of the salon.

Before the haircut:

Building a relationship with a stylist is important from a young age. Bring your kids to the salon when you book your appointment or pop in to say hi so they feel comfortable within the salon environment. For the parents, having a chat to your child’s stylist will help greatly. This helps Khayaam girls to understand your little ones personality and make the experience calm and enjoyable.

Small Children:

For the little ones, coming in to the salon can be quite intimidating. Bring in their favourite snacks, books or small toys to keep them entertained or enjoy the use of one of our in-salon iPads.
Watching a tv show or playing a game helps keep them happy and distracted. Happy kids equal happy hairdressers and more importantly happy mum and dad.

Girls:

Tangle Teezers are a great way to remove any knots from the hair. It’s a perfect brush for wet and dry hair with no pulling or tears!
Help keep your girls hair knot free, soft and fully hydrated with these products:

  • KMS Moisture Repair leave-in conditioner: A leave-in conditioner to soften the hair and help detangle. Apply on towel dried hair and comb though.
  • Kerastase 8H Magic Night Serum: Apply on dry hair every night to add hydration and prevent frizz and knots.
  • Goldwell Dual Senses Rich Repair Serum Spray: Help keeps dry and damaged ends smooth as well as repairing qualities and heat protection. Shake well and apply to towel dried hair.

Always cleanse the hair with a suitable shampoo for the scalp type. Follow up with a hydrating conditioner through the mid-lengths and ends.

Boys:

Styles with a low morning maintenance are best for the boys. A cool, close fade cut through the sides and back while maintaining length on the top will give you and your son an easy and stylish cut to maintain. This look will enable the top to be brushed with ease on those busy school mornings.
To give the hair a textured look the products we love are:

  • American Crew Defining Paste.
  • KMS Moulding Paste: Apply a small pea sized amount or 1 pump to hand and rub together, apply to dry hair and style as desired.

Not sure how to style your kids hair using products? Our stylists will show you their recommended product and show you and your son how to use it.

For the parents:

Rebook your visits for every 6 to 8 weeks to keep your kids hair looking cool, fresh and manageable. Often waiting until the school holidays means the style will have grown out with some terms being as long as 10 to 12 weeks.
