Fashion on the Field tips

In the lead up to our Khayaam Ladies Day Luncheon at the Sale Turf Club next month, we have put together some tips for anyone thinking of entering Fashions on the Field. You can be inspired by our stunning judges and category winners from the event last year.

Ladies Day fashion is all about feeling and looking beautiful and women expressing themselves in a ladylike manner. Judges will be looking for style & originality as well as appropriateness of your outfit for the occasion.

Showing an understanding of current trends and interpreting them to suit your style will be a benefit as well as attention to detail, grooming and deportment.

Suggestions from Johnny Schembri and the VRC Member’s Style Guide advises “In the grand tradition of horseracing, raceday style is always a key focus of the day. It is important to keep in mind that the races are a special day out and the Melbourne Cup Carnival, in particular, has strict guidelines for both ladies and gentlemen.

Some things to keep in mind are: not to wear short hemlines, steer clear of ‘spaghetti straps’ and wear appropriate footwear. Ultimately the races are about keeping within the codes, without letting them affect your personal style. Remember, it’s all about translating current trends into great racewear pieces by incorporating unique millinery choices and accessories.

Personally, I believe it’s important to start with your clothing choice then add headwear, accessories, your bag and shoes. This tends to make the outfit as a whole more cohesive and will ensure you are ‘raceday ready’ !”
